EL AMOR QUE PERDIMOS – Prince Royce

Prince Royce is a Dominican-American singer from NY. This is an oldie but goodie for teaching preterite/ imperfect. In recent years I did more deductive teaching on the past tense, but there are definitely some opportunities for more explicit teaching in this song (e.g. “me engañabas” – did she cheat habitually, or just the one time?).

I would use this in Spanish 2 or Spanish 3 as a review. Make it easy with my free worksheet.

SOY YO (Bomba Estéreo)

Bomba Estéreo is a Colombian group. Your students may be familiar with “Soy yo” from the movie Sing 2. The protagonist of the video is a girl who does a number of unexpected things on her walk home.

Spanish 1 idea: Pause the video in various places and ask students to predict what will happen next using ir + a + infinitive. Pause at :39, 1:20, 2:10, 2:43.

Spanish 2 idea: This song has quite a few examples of gerund. Because of the speed of the song, I’d probably put this as a listening activity in Spanish 2. Don’t have time to make a worksheet? Here’s mine on Teachers Pay Teachers. (Free download!).
